SIM2 is thrilled to announce the shipping of another ground breaking product with the M.150 projector. The M.150 brings SIM2's 3D technology - which has quickly become the new reference standard for consumer 3D images - to the benefits of LED projection technology. Together these deliver a ‘lamp-free' projector that delivers richer and better colours, exceptional blacks and a natural 3D viewing experience.
The M.150 uses a trio of new, more powerful Phlatlight LED modules to act as both light and colour source for the DLP chipset. This LED light source lasts the projector's entire life cycle of around 30,000 hours with very stable colour characteristics and an average lumen decay of less than 5%. The combination of the latest TI Darkchip4 chip with DynamicBlack technology gives an impressive Full On-Full Off contrast of 100,000:1, with the driver being able to turn off the LEDs to give totally black images during dark scenes if necessary. Instant power on/off and very low running noise - due to the new advanced cooling system - are also key benefits of the LED light source.
The M.150 has a light output rating of 1,000 ANSI Lumens, however the brightness of this unit will be perceived far higher by the viewer when compared to a similarly rated traditional lamp. This is due to the difference between ‘white light' brightness and ‘colour' brightness. LED light sources produce much brighter and more saturated colours than traditional lamp sources and the human perception of brightness rises with this increased colour saturation. A second key area where the M.150 differs from its competitors is its blanking time. This is 0.9ms over an 8.3ms frame period (for 120Hz material), which is significantly less than the 2ms sported by the competition. This much shorter blanking time gives a better 3D performance and a much smoother image. It should be remembered that although LCD based technologies specify high LCD scan frequency rates (such as 480Hz) this is purely a method of reducing crosstalk by reducing blanking time: the real frame rate for the viewer remains at 120Hz. The M.150 also hosts a range of features including autocalibration, EasyLED 2.0 calibration software and its video interior design system. Autocalibration is performed by an always-on built-in sensor in the optical path that allows the projector to maintain a constant set colour gamut, even though LED emissions change with temperature and time. The ‘Paint with Light' feature enables installers to work with interior designers to take advantage of the exceptional lamp life of this projector to create room features using light when the projector is not being used for traditional video. This enables the fusion of the entertainment system in to the interior design scheme to create a permanent light feature with changing uses.
